Texas Chin Implants — Dr. David M. Turner
Providing expert chin augmentation to patients in Austin, Round Rock and San Marcos, TX
What are Chin Implants?
Chin implants, also known as chin augmentation or geniopalsty, build up a weak chin or balance other facial features, such as a prominent nose. In Texas, chin implants are often combined with cheek implants or used in conjunction with liposuction or other facial procedures, such as a facelift or nose surgery.
If you have any questions about chin implants, then Dr. David M. Turner will be happy to meet with you at his Austin, TX, office to discuss the procedure. His expertise has assisted patients from Round Rock and San Marcos, as well as other locations surrounding Austin.
How are Chin Implants Performed?
Chin implants are usually performed under general anesthesia and take about 30 minutes. Dr. Turner starts with a small incision just under your chin or inside your mouth. He slides the implant into place and then stitches up the incision with sutures. Surgical tape is used to prevent the chin implant from sliding out of place. If the incision is made inside the mouth, Dr. Turner will most likely use sutures that dissolve on their own. If it is made on the chin, stronger sutures will be used that are removed within seven to 10 days.
Am I a Good Candidate for Chin Implants?
Our chin implant patients in Austin typically have one thing in common: a receding or weak chin. If you have a chin that looks too small in comparison with your other facial features, then you could benefit from this procedure. A chin implant can also improve your neckline and make a large nose appear smaller, which can help balance out your facial features.
What is the Recovery Process for Chin Implants?
After a chin implant, you will be required to wear a protective covering for two to four days. You will experience some bruising and swelling around your chin and neck, but a relatively small amount of pain. Some numbness, soreness and tenderness may last as long as three months. You will have some difficulty smiling and talking, but this should subside within a few days.
Most of our chin augmentation patients in Austin resume their normal activities after a few days. But you should avoid contact sports or any kind of facial impact for three to four weeks.
