Texas Rhinoplasty — Dr. David M. Turner
Providing expert nose surgery to patients in Austin, Round Rock and San Marcos, TX
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery or "nose job," is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. In Texas, patients often choose rhinoplasty to reduce or increase the size of their nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils or change the angle between the nose and upper lip. Nose surgery is a reshaping of the cartilage, bone and sometimes the soft tissues of the nose.
Rhinoplasty attracts men and women of all ages and can be a life-changing procedure. For patients who want a skilled, board-certified surgeon, they need look no further than Dr. David M. Turner in Austin, TX. He and his caring staff work daily with patients from across the region, including residents of Austin, San Marcos and Round Rock.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
A typical rhinoplasty will require an overnight stay in the hospital, although occasionally, where minor corrections to the nose tip alone are needed, it may be possible to return home the same day. Dr. Turner usually takes an hour or two to perform his rhinoplasty procedures in Austin. His patients are normally placed under general anesthesia, although local anesthesia can be used for smaller operations.
Dr. Turner starts the nose surgery by separating the skin of the nose from the supporting bone and cartilage, which is sculpted to the desired form. The skin is then repositioned over the bone and cartilage, and a splint is used to help support the new shape.
Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
You could be a candidate for rhinoplasty if you are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way your nose appears. Although there are many reasons for nose surgery, many of the patients who come into our Austin office choose the procedure because they have:
• A nose that feel disproportionate to the size of their face
• A nose that is crooked or off-center
• A nose that appears too wide when viewed from the front
• A bump on the bridge of the nose
• Nostrils that are excessively flared
• A tip that droops or plunges, or is thickened or enlarged
• A previous injury that has left the nose asymmetrical
• Problems breathing due to structural defects
What is the Recovery Process for Rhinoplasty?
For about a day after rhinoplasty, you will need dressings on each nostril. A splint will be placed on your nose for seven to 10 days, during which time your stitches will dissolve. You may also have some minor nose bleeds for a few days.
Each patient is individual, so no definite timescale for recovery can be given. However, most of our Austin nose surgery patients are up and about within a couple of days and are able to return to work after just a week.
